"It made me laugh"

submission: Watchguys
date: March 25, 2009

It may have been rushed, but it was pretty damn funny. It's got a very old-school Newgrounds feel back when there weren't any animators like Adam Phillips, but people still put their heart and soul (and an ample supply of dick jokes) in their movies anyways. If you're going for comedy actually making me laugh is always more important than having a beautifully animated film with well proportioned characters and all frame-by-frame animation and in that you've succeeded.

Danmaku Legend II

"Kicked my ass..."

submission: Danmaku Legend II

In the best way possible. I'm aware of the Touhou games, but I've never actually played any of them so this is my first step into insanity of this sort. I like the way it starts out, really simple, deceptively so, but it isn't long before the game just says, "fuck that," and goes all out on you. Bullets fly everywhere, enemies dodge nimbly around, bosses float calmly blasting captivating yet deadly patterns of bullets straight up your ass while you're left trying to make sense of the mess. Excellent stuff.

The Greatest Idea Ever!

"Billiant"

date: December 4, 2008

It's been a treat watching you improve over the years. The are plenty of people on Newgrounds who can draw and animate well and plenty who can make a halfway-compelling story, but being genuinely funny is one of the hardest skills to master. Every movie I see from you gets a little funnier, the jokes are delivered better, the timing gets a little more spot on, all without relying on any moments of "wacky randomness." If I could reach through my computer and pat you on the back I would. Thanks for making my day a little brighter every time you submit something.

Glow Effect

"Distinctive and fun"

submission: Glow Effect
date: October 7, 2008

The idea of different geometric blocks in an Arkanoid type game is great. Even in the more tedious levels it still took concentration because your ball could be going anywhere. I also like the idea of locks, instead of being tedious it allows those who don't want to shoot for high scores to skip a little more quickly through the levels without hitting every single block. Level editors are always a great addition too, the levels were a little too few and it's cool to be able to make some more and see if you can top the main games design.

The power ups were a little by the books. You were going for a lot of innovation with this stye of game, but none of them were unique or original. It's a minor complain though since it's a fun game none-the-less.

PICODAY

"Thank you"

submission: PICODAY
date: April 30, 2008

This made my night. At first I couldn't believe what I was watching. It existed for a fleeting moment before being hidden again, so I had to watch on to confirm the horror. Then every time the grill burst open and the sloud of smoke dissipated I noticed another detail. The melting flash wobbling on the brink of breaking off and falling onto the red hot coals. The one tooth protruding from the gums of the screaming mouth. The hand helplessly caught in the bars of the grill. The it all hit me, the absolute cruelest act possible inflicted upon the most innocent of all human creatures punctuated by a jovial midi rendition of the Sanford and Son theme. Suddenly something so grotesque became the greatest thing ever.

Kudos

FlashBack 00

"A fantastic action scene"

submission: FlashBack 00
date: May 1, 2007

Beautiful, sleek, exciting, and funny. It exemplifies everything that makes Pico and Newgrounds so appealing with aplomb.

Take out the Pico Day motif and it's still brilliant on it's own merits as a fight scene. Everything runs in a smooth and logical manner. The characters are animated with grace and style. The action never slows down. I didn't feel like there were any moments that felt hum-drum or out of place. Magnificent from beginning to end.

The characters were all integrated into the movie well. You brought them stylistically into your world without compromising what makes them, them. The 2D and 3D elements fit together well. A lot of times a 3D characters in a mostly 2D environment can seem out of place and ugly next to a less stiff traditional character.

A great movie overall. My current favorite of the day. Hope you win.

NightStrike

"Wow, I'm speechless...perfection."

submission: NightStrike
date: January 20, 2006

Its an extremely rare occurance when I have no advice for improvment to offer on a flash submission, I'm utterly blown away. This isn't just a swift kick in the balls to every other defense game on Newgrounds it's the most fun, addictive and all around entertaining game on this website. Not since Ronin: Spirit of the Sword have I been so entranced by a web-game that I could hardly pull myself away to write a review.

First off, great work as always on the graphics by Mind Chamber. All the enemies, from the lowliest soldier to the biggest bosses are dripping with style and detail, its almost a pity that I have to destroy so many of these beautiful creations. The backrounds are all top notch as well, they all do a perfect job setting the tone of going through one war torn area after another.

Now for the gameplay, there are so many elements of strategy added to the game that excell it way beyond every other defense game. While most games are content to leave any strategic planning at the upgrade panel, strategy simply oozes through every aspect of the gameplay. Which upgrade is the best, should I attack every enemy on the screen or let more on to potentially get a higher combo while opening up the possibility of getting swamped by enemies, should I defend to the left and attack to the right or should I shield against the incoming bombers? And finally just when the gameplay starts to get boring you're faced with a gigantic boss (a much appreciated addition) that will test all the skills you've been honing.

Two more things I'd like to praise, first, the combo system, what seems almost arbitrary at first is actually a nuanced system that rewards smart players with huge bonuses. Secondly, the physics based, weather infused, Scorched Earth style attack system, I could go on for quite some time talking about how much this adds to the game when you evolve the simple point, click then watch enemy die gameplay that I've seen in almost every defense game, but if you'll excuse me, I've got a game to play.

StickMan Sam - Part 3

"Two steps forward one step back Great game anyways"

date: November 24, 2005

First of all, this game is without a doubt a big evolution over the first two, but when you make a game more advanced and move away from the simplicity of the first two it takes more refinement to make it perfect and what is really hurting this game is a lack of refinement. In the end it feels like two steps forward and one step back. Just as a short list of complaints I have. I want to let you know that

- Jumping from poles and ledges you've grabbed onto is frustrating, it would be alot easier if you didn't have to let go of the grab button. If you were able to hold the up key the whole time is would make it faster especially when you're being shot at.

- It's annoying how enemies instantly lock onto you with perfect aim. It takes a little fun out of fighting when the only strategy is to fire before they do. Items to hide behind would spice the action up a bit as well.

Those are two major complaints, but there are lots of smaller ones as well such as enemies that are still able to harm you when you're in an elevator. I could list more but I'd like to have room in my review for some complements.

Aside from my complaints theres alot to love about this game. I think it is easily the best flash sidescrolling, use the mouse for aiming, shooter (hope that makes sense). The first two SMSs got a little boring near the end, but the additions in this version help fix that issue.

The graphics while suitable in a stickman world, really lack any pizzaz. Running through similar grey environments isn't exactly interesting. I would love to see more distinction from each area to make thing more interesting.

You're great at making games and I want you to be able to improve on the next SMS enough that I can give it a 10 overall. Spending more time on the next iteration of SMS could really make an excellent game, I know I wouldn't mind waiting up to a year for it if it would mean a vastly improved game.

Lord of the Clocks pt. 1a

"Don't sell yourself short, best CC flash so far!"

date: August 15, 2005

This flash is such a perfect mix of the Lord of the Ring and Newgrounds/Clock Crew. The story was set up perfectly so that anyone can enjoy it, while the in-jokes flowed like wine for all the people who could spot and recognize them.

Before I say anything else I have to say what a wonderful job Nef did on the narration. In a flash like this where the narration is the main source setting the tone and delivering the story its important that it be done well and it was done perfect. The accent was spot on and the the pacing was perfect. There are so many flashes that I love, but my main complaint almost always boils down to shoddy voice acting. Its a breath of freash air to watch a flash where the voice acting is done so brilliantly.

The graphincs were also beautiful, detailed, and stylistically very fitting. You did a grat job of taking different clocks and redesigning them into the LOTR world. There were a few moments where the characters looked and animated very flat, but those moments hardly detracted from the rest of the film. Also I also appreciate the effort you put into redoing all the Newgrounds menus instead of just using a screenshot.

Overall I am immensely impressed, I was betting on The Void III to be the best flash today, but this may just top it. Its not out yet though so well just have to wait and see.
